Notes to Instructors Using the Classroom Assessment Tools

We are conducting a study to assess the classroom assessment tools (CATs) as teaching aids for introductory programming courses.  If you plan to use the CATs with or without the TVI lectures, please consider participating in this study.  Thanks to all of you who have already expressed interest in providing feedback about the assessment tools.  If you have any questions, please contact Tammy VanDeGrift (tammy@cs.washington.edu).  Thanks.

For C Instructors:  We would like to assess four classroom assessment tools in detail.  Please use the following tools about the C language in your classroom (if possible) and fill out the  survey  within 2 days of giving the CAT to your students.  The tools that we would like you to use are the following:

lecture 2 (Problems, Algorithms, Programs) -- approximate analogies
lecture 5 (Input, Output) -- concept map
lecture 6 (Conditionals) -- application card
lecture 8 (Function Parameters) -- drama
You may, of course, use the other CATs supporting the above lectures in addition to the specific CATs listed here.

For Java Instructors:  Below are Java versions of the four CATs above.  Please feel free to use these tools in your course and comment on them in the survey within 2 days of giving them to your students.

Java: Problems, Algorithms, Programs -- approximate analogies
Java: Input and Output -- concept map
 Java: Conditionals -- application card
 Java: Method Calls -- drama

Student versions of the CATs:
Java: Problems, Algorithms, Programs (Student Version)
Java: Input and Output (Student Version)
 Java: Conditionals (Student Version)
 Java: Method Calls (Student Version)
